Over the last couple of years, electric cars have been skyrocketing in popularity. There’s been a push by the media and government to get the masses to start using these supposedly ‘environment-friendly’ vehicles… all in an attempt to ‘save the planet’.
Whether or not the planet needs saving is a whole nother topic – and the answer can be quite discomforting, if one does the research.
But this article is not about government agendas, corporatocracy or what Greta Thunberg thinks. This article is about whether a prepper needs an electric vehicle (EV).
And the answer is a resounding, “No!”
There may be countless websites online telling you why it’s a good thing to get an EV. Yet, one only needs to look at the COVID pandemic to see how the masses were misled and got it wrong.
Historically, the sheep have always gone in the wrong direction.
But we’re not going to just state opinions. Let’s back them up with facts.
- You can store fuel
If you’re driving a fuel-powered vehicle, you’ll always be able to store a spare canister or two of fuel should your car run out of gas.
What will you do if your electric vehicle’s battery runs out and you’re far away from a charging point?
Some may argue that the electric vehicle can be charged using solar power. That may be true… but how long will you wait?
- What if an impending hurricane is on its way and you’re in its path?
- What if the skies are cloudy and the sun is nowhere to be seen?
- What if you’re bugging out in the wilderness and discover that the electric vehicle’s battery is dead?
When you realize that electric vehicles aren’t dependable, you’ll understand just how many issues can arise when you’re short on time and need to get out of dodge ASAP.
- EVs can’t travel as far
Let’s assume your electric vehicle is fully charged and you’re evacuating your home and fleeing to a shelter… or your bug out site which is miles away from where you live.
The amount of battery power your electric vehicle has may not be enough to get you to your destination. These vehicles are notorious for not being able to last long distances.
Now, once again, you’re back at square one. You’ll need to find a charging point and wait for your EV to get fully charged.
Imagine being in a hurry but your car is taking its sweet time to charge. It can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 12 hours to fully charge your car, depending on the size of the battery.
It’s like waiting for your mobile phone to charge before you can leave the house. You’re not in control. These ‘devices’ control you.
With a gas-powered vehicle, you could easily fill up the gas tank in minutes at any gas station and be on your way. No hassle. No waiting. In a survival situation, every minute counts.
- Insufficient charging points
In future, more and more people will be using electric vehicles. Currently, there aren’t enough charging points to service many cars at once. Even if there were, with wait times of 30 minutes each, with 12 cars in a queue, you can expect to wait 6 hours just for your turn.
Have you seen traffic jams when people are evacuating because of a disaster?
Tons of cars lined up along highways moving at a slow crawl. It’ll be even slower at an EV charging point. Truly a nightmare.
- These vehicles are expensive
Most preppers will need to store supplies, set aside funds to tide them through a crisis, purchase firearms and so on. All of these requires money.
Spending an unnecessarily large amount on an electric vehicle will put a serious cramp on your finances, if you aren’t a big earner.
Gas cars are much more affordable… and you can get a pre-owned but still reliable one for a couple of thousand dollars. An electric vehicle such as a Tesla can cost $45 thousand to north of $60,000 dollars.
- You can be tracked and controlled
A lot of these electric cars contain systems that allow the manufacturers to track your movements and even remotely shut down your car, if they wanted to.
Are you seriously considering letting these entities control your life?
Any prepper worth his/her salt will have a healthy distrust for government, and will realize that corporations control the puppet heads in politics… and both are usually in cahoots for their own selfish agendas.
Remember the ‘Freedom Convoy’ in Canada?

You wouldn’t think it was possible for the government to hold your own hard-earned money, right?
Yet, here we are – government overreach at its finest.
If they can get to your money that’s supposed to be safe in a private bank, you can bet that there’s a very real possibility that if the truckers were using electric vehicles, these vehicles would have been remotely shut down and towed away.
Having an electric vehicle that is controlled by external entities with remote disabling systems puts you at their mercy. It’s like having a kill switch in your car that’s out of your control.
Don’t fall for it. Being a prepper is about having the ability to survive and resist ANYTHING that may threaten your life or your freedom. A fuel-powered car will be a ‘companion’ that you can always count on.
An EV is a double-agent that will turn on you in a heartbeat should its creator decide you’re not following the plan they have for you.
- In conclusion…
Despite the hyped-up benefits of electric cars and the ‘earth saving’ potential, there are many serious downsides to consider.
Do you really need to pay so much for an EV just because the government tells you that these vehicles keep the planet cleaner?
All you need to do is visit countries like China to see that you’re being misled into believing that ‘going green’ is a global initiative.
There are many other agendas at play here. Don’t sabotage your chances of survival on your own terms by relying on electric vehicles.
There’s even an article on Bloomberg stating that 31% of electric car owners reported a problem with their EVs within 4 years. (Source: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-03-03/are-electric-cars-more-reliable-than-petrol-or-diesel-maybe-not-poll-says)
So, it’s best to err on the side of caution. Save your money and maintain your control and freedom.
